history
The community may be traced back to the ancient Mamerta , the existence of which (from around 300 BC) is not certain. In 1040 the community is mentioned for the first time with its current name, a few years later the population withstood the onslaught of the Normans for a long time, until the walls finally fall in 1056. In 1783 and 1908, earthquakes destroyed large parts of the community. Today the community is an important refuge for the 'Ndrangheta .
