mafia

The village is considered the stronghold of the 'Ndrangheta . There are supposed to be underground passages and chambers with camouflaged or hidden doors, which enable members of the criminal organization to disappear in case of danger. Nevertheless, the Italian state tries again and again to master the situation. For example, on November 13, 2003, a total of over 1000 Carabinieri stormed the village at night, and 131 suspects were arrested.
