Gioiosa Ionica is an Italian city in the metropolitan city of Reggio Calabria in Calabria with 7045 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019).

Location and dates

Gioiosa Ionica is located 102 km northeast of Reggio Calabria on the eastern side of the Serre . The neighboring municipalities are Grotteria , Marina di Gioiosa Ionica , Martone and Roccella Ionica .

The station is located in the municipality of Marina di Gioiosa Ionica on the Taranto – Reggio di Calabria railway and was the starting point for the narrow-gauge Gioiosa Jonica – Mammola railway , which also served the city itself.

Attractions

The place has a beautiful center from the Middle Ages with a medieval castle.
