Rizziconi is a southern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 7731 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the metropolitan city of Reggio Calabria in Calabria . The municipality is located about 43 kilometers northeast of Reggio Calabria and about 32 kilometers south-southwest of Vibo Valentia .

Economy and Transport

The region is dominated by agriculture. Historically, the district of Drosi is of interest: the former Roman settlement Drusium is located here . A gas power plant (operated by the Laufenburg electricity company ) feeds 760 MW into the grid. The Rizziconi station on the narrow-gauge railway line (950 mm) from Gioia Tauro to Cinquefrondi (built in 1924) is also closed when the line is closed in 2011. The Strada Statale 111 di Gioia Tauro e Locri , in the direction of the A3 autostrada and the Tyrrhenian Sea and (east) to the Ionian Sea , runs through the municipality .

In 2001 the council was disbanded because of its ties to the 'Ndrangheta .
