Grotteria is an Italian city in the metropolitan city of Reggio Calabria in Calabria with 3030 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019).

Location and dates

Grotteria is 107 km northeast of Reggio Calabria on the eastern side of the Serre . The neighboring municipalities are Fabrizia ( VV ), Galatro , Gioiosa Ionica , Mammola , Marina di Gioiosa Ionica , Martone , San Giovanni di Gerace and Siderno .

The Grotteria station was on the narrow-gauge railway line Gioiosa Jonica – Mammola .

Attractions

The ruins of a medieval castle are in the village. In the archpriest church there are paintings from the 17th century. In the neoclassical church of S. Agazio there is a wooden crucifix from the 17th century.
