Monasterace is an Italian city in the metropolitan city of Reggio Calabria in Calabria with 3627 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019).

Location and dates

Monasterace is 136 km northeast of Reggio Calabria on the eastern slope of the Serre . The coastal district Monasterace Marina belongs to the place. The neighboring municipalities are Guardavalle ( CZ ) and Stilo .

Attractions

In the village there is a ruin of a castle from the 16th century.

The archaeological area of Caulonia is on the territory of the municipality . There are still walls and other remains of the Greek city. The finds that were found here are exhibited in the Museo Nazionale della Magna Grecia in Reggio Calabria .
