• Washington DC / United States : The International Center for the Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), an arbitration board at the World Bank , has dismissed a lawsuit by the US tobacco company Philip Morris International against the state of Uruguay after six years of negotiations . In Uruguay, in addition to high tobacco taxes , there is a strict smoking ban in restaurants and many public places. There is also an advertising ban and drastic warnings on the cigarette packs .

• Caracas / Venezuela : The National Assembly , dominated by the conservative opposition alliance Mesa de la Unidad Democrática (MUD), decides to remove 13 Supreme Judges and 21 deputies, who were appointed by the Partido Socialista Unido de Venezuela (PSUV) in December 2015 .
