Slovakia's priority is to use the Presidency to ensure that EU enlargement and the development of relations with Turkey and the countries of the Western Balkans remain at the center of the European agenda.

In the area of stability of the euro zone and the euro, Slovakia wants to concentrate on the consistent implementation of the reforms in the member states that have received help from the rescue mechanisms.

In the area of migration, emphasis will be placed on the meeting of uniform European measures that will lead to the solution of the migrant crisis. Slovakia will also support the creation of the Energy Union in order to provide member countries with safe, affordable and sustainable energy. The key priority is the maintenance of the Slovak-Ukrainian gas corridor.

Slovakia intends to continue to develop cooperation within the Visegrád Group and with other European and global partners.

During its presidency of the Council, Slovakia will continue to support the deepening of Economic and Monetary Union (EMU), which should contribute to increasing competitiveness. Other important economic issues that will be addressed are the negotiations on the EU budget for 2017 and the creation of the Capital Markets Union.

In the area of creating the digital single market, during the Slovak Presidency of the EU the focus will be on the following points: removing barriers to the digital economy, simplifying the use of electronic services and market access, availability of digital content and a high level of consumer protection.

The aim of the Slovak Presidency in the area of migration is primarily to pursue the policy of protecting the EU's external borders and preserving the integrity of the Schengen area . Particular attention will be paid to the positive agenda, such as the smart borders regulation package, which aims to combat irregular immigration and speed up passenger handling with modern technology.

One of the challenges for the European Union are the trouble spots in its neighborhood. As the enlargement of the EU is the most effective means of positive change in this area, Slovakia will focus on maintaining the dynamism and credibility of the enlargement process during the presidency.

The face in the logo, made up of the diacritical marks of the Slovak alphabet , is intended as a playful element to refer to Slovakia as a young and dynamic country and arouse positive emotions.

The designer of the logo is 23-year-old artist and designer James Dušička, who studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava . The Dušička logo won the open tender out of more than 200 proposals.
