The Dutch Presidency deals with the chairmanship of the Netherlands in the Council of Ministers of the EU for the first half of 2016 . This marks the beginning of a new trio Council Presidency of the Netherlands, Slovakia and Malta . It is the twelfth presidency of the founding member of the EU after 1960, 1963, 1966, 1969, 1972, 1976, 1981, 1986, 1991, 1997 and 2004.
Priorities of the Dutch EU Council Presidency
According to a statement by the Dutch Foreign Minister Bert Koenders about the EU Council Presidency of the Netherlands in 2016, the Netherlands want a European Union “ that focuses on the essentials, that generates growth and employment through innovation and in which citizens and civil society organizations are actively involved in politics Bring in events ".
The Dutch Presidency has set itself the following goals for the next six months:
- Migration and International Security
- Europe as a motor for innovation and employment
- Finance and the Eurozone
- Future-oriented climate and energy policy

The logo chosen for the Council Presidency of the Netherlands in 2016 is, with an updated year, a takeover of the symbol from 2004.
Special
On the occasion of the Dutch EU Council Presidency, a time capsule will be opened that was closed during the Hungarian EU Council Presidency in 2011 . There are messages in the form of drawings by Hungarian children. Fifty of the 1700 drawings received were selected and placed in the time capsule. Five years ago, in the messages, the children expressed their wishes and requests to the politicians of the European Union. At the end of the Hungarian Council Presidency, the time capsule was handed over by Enikő Győri to Robert Milders, Ambassador of the Netherlands.
