The Luxembourg Presidency described the chairmanship of Luxembourg in the Council of Ministers of the European Union for the second half of 2015. It follows the Trio Presidency of Italy , Latvia and Luxembourg in the first half of 2015. It was the twelfth Presidency Luxembourg after 1960, 1963, 1966, 1969, 1972, 1976, 1980, 1985, 1991, 1997 and 2005.

Priorities of the Luxembourg EU Council Presidency

The priorities of the Luxembourg EU Council Presidency 2015 built directly on the trio program of the Council Presidency Italy - Latvia - Luxembourg. The most important goals according to this trio program are, for example:

  • complete overcoming of the economic crisis and
  • Growth of the labor market and social protection as well as preparations for demographic change also for the health sector,
  • Removing barriers to business in the internal market,
  • Improving the possibilities of the digital economy,
  • Strengthening and improving the area of freedom, security and justice,
  • Strengthening and improving bilateral trade relations, especially with the USA, Canada and Japan through open and fair trade and strategic partnerships,
  • Strengthening of environmental policy (climate and energy policy beyond 2020, improved air quality and a ban on plastic bags) and inclusion of ecological sustainability in the further economic policy control cycle of the Union,
  • Reduction of the dependence on energy imports (through higher efficiency and growing production of clean energy),
  • Transport infrastructure (e.g. through environmentally friendly and economical transport infrastructure),
  • sustainable, innovative and environmentally friendly development of agriculture, food production and fisheries,
  • Reinvigorate the Union's enlargement policy as a fundamental instrument for promoting peace, democracy and security in Europe by making progress in accession negotiations with the Western Balkans and relaunching the ongoing negotiation process with Turkey.

With regard to the personnel, economic and spatial capacities of Luxembourg, a lean and cost-adjusted Council Presidency is sought.

The logo used for the current Council Presidency of Luxembourg was originally developed for the location promotion of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and adapted for the Council Presidency (unlike the Council Presidency of 2005). The aim of the adjustments was to “put the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg at the center of this Council Presidency” . The logo is used in French , German and English . Only letters are used in the logo, no numbers (also no year) and only a slightly horizontal square as a graphic element.

The part of the name that denotes the form of government (Grand Duchy) is shown in black capital letters ( capitals ). This is "a form of self-assertion" . The part of the name that denotes the territorial dimension (Luxembourg) is written in lower case and in the colors of the Luxembourg flag "blue, white, red".

There is a blue point in front of the white letters lu on a red background. This is intended to simultaneously refer to the country code for Internet addresses and to the www.luxembourg.lu portal . The lettering Presidency of the Council of the European Union is right-aligned to the left of the logo and is gray in a neutral color.
