State government Edmund Joensen II
The second state government headed by Edmund Joensen as prime minister was also the nineteenth government of the Faroe Islands after obtaining internal self-government ( heimastýri ) in 1948.
government
The government was formed on June 11, 1996 and lasted until May 15, 1998. It was composed of a four-way coalition of Sambandsflokkurin , Fólkaflokkurin , Verkamannafylkingin and Sjálvstýrisflokkurin . This coalition was in fact a continuation of Joensen's first coalition. Only the Javnaðarflokkurin was replaced by the Fólkaflokkurin and some areas of responsibility were redistributed.
Edmund Joensen from Sambandsflokkurin headed the government as Prime Minister. He was also responsible for foreign affairs and legal affairs. Eilif Samuelsen vom Sambandsflokkurin was Minister for Environment, Energy, Education and Local Affairs, Ivan Johannesen vom Sambandsflokkurin Minister for Trade & Industry, Fish Breeding and Agriculture, Beginn Kallsberg vom Fólkaflokkurin was Minister for Finance and Economy, John Petersen from Fólkaflokkurin Minister for Fisheries, Axel H Nolsøe vom Verkamannafylkingin was Minister for Social Affairs, Health, Labor, Insurance, Police and Justice until October 1996. He was replaced by Kristian Magnussen vom Verkamannafylkingin, who held office from October 1996 to March 1998. This passed his area of responsibility on to Óli Jacobsen vom Verkamannafylkingin, who was then the minister responsible from March to May 1998. Sámal Petur í Grund vom Sjálvstýrisflokkurin continued to be Minister for Communication, Culture, Tourism and Shipping. However, he resigned on December 1, 1997 when the Sjálvstýrisflokkurin retired from the government.
Except for the Fólkaflokkurin, all coalition partners suffered losses in the Løgtings election in 1998 , so that Edmund Joensen had to give up the office of Prime Minister. In the beginning Kallsberg was his successor.
