Beginning of Kallsberg

Anfinn Kallsberg (born November 19, 1947 in Klaksvík ) is a Faroese politician , former Prime Minister of the Faroe Islands and chairman of the conservative People's Party ( Fólkaflokkurin ).

biography

At the beginning Kallsberg is the son of the housewife Katrina and the foreman Gunnar Kallsberg from Klaksvík. He is married to Berghild, née Matras from Viðareiði , with whom he has three children. The family lives in Viðareiði.

After an apprenticeship as an office clerk in Klaksvík, Kallsberg went freelance as an accountant in 1974 . From 1974 to 1980 he was also a member of the Viðareiði Municipality Council. He has been a member of the Løgting since 1980 and was chairman from 1991 to 1993. He was a member of the Faroese state government from 1983–1985, 1989 and 1996–1998.

After the Løgtingswahl from April 30, 1998 to 2004, Kallsberg was in a coalition with Høgni Hoydals Republicans ( Tjóðveldisflokkurin ) Prime Minister of the Faroe Islands. Today he is no longer a member of the state government, but his People's Party is now a coalition partner of the Social Democrats ( Javnaðarflokkurin ) under Jóannes Eidesgaard .

His reign together with Hoydal was marked by a policy of detachment of the Faroe Islands from Denmark , with the aim of establishing the Faroe Islands as an independent republic. Both the Conservative People's Party and the left Republicans have traditionally been close on this point. However, in 2000 negotiations with Denmark collapsed completely. A referendum planned for 2001 in the Faroe Islands was called off when it became clear that there would be no clear majority in favor of secession.

The fact that this coalition was re-elected in 2002 is largely attributed by observers to an oil discovery that was reported a few days before the election. Oil is an important factor of hope for the Faroe Islands and would be an important economic basis for a future sovereign island state. But already in 2003 there was an uproar between Hoydal and Kallsberg when a book was published that dealt with Kallsberg's creative bookkeeping many years ago. After the early elections in 2004 , Kallsberg then signed the coalition agreement with the Social Democrats and the pro-Danish Sambandsflokkurin .

From 2005 to 2007 Annfinn Kallsberg (like Høgni Hoydal) was a member of the Danish Folketing . Prior to that, he represented the Faroe Islands at the international level in the Nordic Council in 1991 and 1994–1998 .

On March 21, 2007, he announced that he would retire from politics to make way for younger people.
