Pauli Ellefsen

Joen Pauli Højgaard Ellefsen (born April 20, 1936 in Miðvágur ; † August 24, 2012 ) was a Faroese Unionist politician ( Sambandsflokkurin ) . He was Prime Minister of the Faroe Islands from 1981 to 1985 .

Pauli Ellefsen was the son of Sofía, b. Højgaard from Rituvík and Joen Elias Ellefsen from Miðvágur. He was married to Henni Egholm, b. Rasmussen. The couple lived in Hoyvík . From 1954 to 1956 he went to sea as a fisherman. He then worked as a telecommunications engineer and trained in business school. From 1969 he was a state assessor.

Ellefsten was first elected to the Faroe Islands parliament, the Løgting , in 1974. 1974–1990 he was chairman of the Unionists who advocate close ties between the Faroe Islands and Denmark. 1977-87 and 1988-90 he was one of the two Faroese MEPs in the Danish Folketing . 1975–76 and 1979 he also represented the Faroe Islands in the Nordic Council .
