State government Aksel V. Johannesen

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Faroese state government under Aksel V. Johannesen as Prime Minister was formed on September 15, 2015. It consists of eight members, four women and four men. It is the first parity government in the Faroe Islands.

Education and composition

The eight-member state government emerges from a liberal-socialist three-party coalition in which Javnaðarflokkurin with four ministers, Tjóðveldi with three ministers, and Framsókn with one minister are involved.

The government was able to rely on a majority of 17 seats in Løgting , which has 33 members . But on the first day of government, Sonja Jógvansdóttir resigned from the Javnaðarflokkurin in order to be an independent member of the Løgting. However, she said she would continue to support the coalition, so that in purely mathematical terms there was no change in the coalition strength of 17 MPs.

Henrik Old initially took over the Ministry of the Interior, but four days later it was reduced to the Ministry of Transport. The other duties of the Minister of the Interior were attached to the Ministry of Health.
