State government Atli Dam I
The first state government headed by Atli Dam as Prime Minister was the eighth government of the Faroe Islands after obtaining internal self-government ( heimastýri ) in 1948.

The government existed from December 12, 1970 to January 11, 1975. It was a three-party coalition consisting of Javnaðarflokkurin , Sambandsflokkurin and Sjálvstýrisflokkurin . It was the first Faroese government to have five ministers with fixed responsibilities.
Atli Dam from Javnaðarflokkurin led the government as prime minister. He was also responsible for foreign affairs, traffic and markets. Peter F. Christiansen vom Sambandsflokkurin was Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance and Agriculture. Jacob Lindenskov from Javnaðarflokkurin was Minister for Labor, Social Affairs and Industry, Eli Nolsøe from Sambandsflokkurin was Minister for Fisheries, Trade and Justice and Sámal Petersen from Sjálvstýrisflokkurin was Minister for Local Affairs, Culture and Education.
When Sámal Petersen left the government in 1972, Asbjørn Joensen from Sjálvstýrisflokkurin took over his duties.
