- Fengcheng / China : At least 67 people are killed when a platform of a cooling tower crashes on a coal-fired power plant construction site.
- Haifa / Israel : More than 10,000 residents of the city leave their homes due to bush fires . Large fires are also raging in other parts of the country . The authorities assume arson.
- Hilla / Iraq : More than 80 Shiite pilgrims are killed in a car bomb attack in a truck at a gas station near the city . The Islamic State is committed to the act.

- Damghan / Iran : On the Garmsar – Mashhad railway line , a passenger train runs into a broken-down express train. Some wagons catch fire. At least 44 people are killed and over 80 are injured.
- Frankfurt am Main / Germany : The pilots of the airline Lufthansa continue their strike. Around 100,000 passengers cannot take their booked flights up to and including Saturday. An end to the strike after Saturday is unrealistic as the pilots union has sufficient financial resources to continue. However, Lufthansa does not want to go into paying the pilots 20% more salaries retrospectively from 2012.
- Moria / Greece , Harmanli / Bulgaria : In refugee camps on Lesbos and in Harmanli, 1,500 migrants , mostly of Afghan origin, fight for hours with security forces. Two migrants died in a gas explosion in Moria that night, after which others started fires. The reason for the violence is the refused onward journey to Germany , France , Sweden , etc.
- Munich / Germany : The members of the Bayern soccer club, Munich e. V. elect Uli Hoeneß as president of their association at the annual general meeting. For Hoeneß, due to the lack of reporting of speculative profits to the tax office, suspension of imprisonment on probation applies until 2019 .

- La Unión / Colombia : An Avro RJ85 passenger aircraft on LaMia flight 2933 from Viru Viru Airport in Bolivia to Rionegro Airport , near Medellín , crashes near Mount El Gordo in the Antioquia Department in Colombia. There were 72 passengers and nine crew members on board. The passengers included 19 players and 26 officials from the Brazilian soccer club Chapecoense , which was to play in the final round of the Copa Sudamericana against the Colombian club Atlético Nacional , as well as journalists from the television channel Fox Sports Brasil . It is reported that given the length of the flight route, the amount of fuel would only have been sufficient under favorable circumstances.
