The Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova ( Romanian Partidul Socialiștilor din Republica Moldova , PSRM; Russian Партия социалистов Республики Молдова ) is a Moldovan political party represented in parliament and has been the strongest political party there since the parliamentary elections in 2014.

The party particularly appeals to Russian-speaking voters and is considered pro-Russian.

The founding congress of the PSRM took place on June 29, 1997. The first party leader was Veronica Abramciuc . In the local elections in 1999, the party was part of a joint electoral alliance of communists, agrarians and socialists which received around a third of the votes. For a long time, the importance of the PSRM did not go beyond the status of a small party. Most of the pro-Russian voter spectrum was already covered by the Communist Party of the Republic of Moldova .

In the parliamentary elections in 2005 , the party took part in the electoral bloc Heimat ( Romanian Blocul electoral "Patria-Rodina" ) - the alliance received 4.97% of the vote.

From 2011 the Communist Party increasingly approached a pro-European foreign policy, which moved many long-standing members to quit the Communists and join the Socialists. On November 18, 2011 , a new parliamentary group of socialists was founded. The three members Zinaida Greceanîi , Igor Dodon and Veronica Abramciuc had split off from the Communist Party on November 4, 2011 . On December 18, 2011 , one of the parliamentarians, Igor Dodon , was elected as the new party leader.

In the 2014 parliamentary elections , it became the strongest force and won 25 of the 101 seats.
