The 2001 parliamentary elections in the Republic of Moldova took place on Sunday, February 25, 2001.
Electoral system
There are 101 seats in the Moldovan Parliament for a legislature dominated by four years. A six percent threshold was applied to the authorized parties . The election was based on proportional representation .
Election result
The winner of the election was the Communist Party of the Republic of Moldova (PCRM). It got 50.07 percent of the vote and thus received an absolute majority with 71 seats in parliament. In second place, with 13.36 percent, came the "Allianz Braghiș" (BeAB). The third strongest force was the Christian Democratic People's Party (PPCD) with 8.24 percent.
