New Vision

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

New Vision is one of the two major national newspapers in Uganda . The circulation is around 35,000 and the headquarters are in Kampala . In addition to the main edition in English, there is a daily ( Bukedde ) and three weekly regional editions ( Orumuri , Rupiny and Etop ) in local languages. New Vision appears in A3 format on 48 pages.

According to its own information, the paper makes a profit of 14 billion Ugandan shillings (about 6.2 million euros ) and 921 million Uganda shillings (about 410,000 euros) (as of 1999). Around 230 full-time employees and 100 freelance workers are employed.

The newspaper was founded in 1986 after President Yoweri Museveni came to power and is owned by the state. Compared to the second large, independent newspaper, The Monitor , it is therefore more pro-government, although there is a law that is supposed to guarantee the independence of the newspaper and which even stipulates a critical attitude towards the government.
