Augustin Matata Ponyo (born June 5, 1964 ) is a Congolese politician of the Parti du Peuple pour la Reconstruction et la Démocratie (PPRD). He was Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of the Congo from April 18, 2012 to December 20, 2016.

Life

Ponyo graduated from Kinshasa University . From February 21, 2010 to April 18, 2012, he succeeded Atanase Matenda as Minister of Finance of the Democratic Republic of the Congo under President Joseph Kabila . Ponyo was Prime Minister of his country from April 18, 2012 as the successor to Louis Alphonse Koyagialo . He was injured in a plane crash on February 12, 2012.
