Sambwa Pida Nbagui

Sambwa Pida Nbagui (birth name: Jules Fontaine Sambwa ; born November 12, 1940 in Coquilhatville , Belgian Congo ; † March 4, 1998 in Brussels ) was a Zairian politician of the MPR ( Mouvement Populaire de la Révolution ) , who, among other things, in 1988 as the first State Commissioner to be Prime Minister of Zaire .

Life

Jules Fontaine Sambwa completed a degree in economics and finance at the Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB) and after graduating from 1967 to 1969 was an economic advisor to President Mobutu Sese Seko . He joined the MPR ( Mouvement Populaire de la Révolution ) founded by Mobutu on April 17, 1967 and was an advisor to the central bank (Banque centrale du Zaire) from 1969 to 1970 . He then succeeded Albert Ndele as Governor of the Banque centrale du Zaire in September 1970 and held this position until he was replaced by Charles Bofossa Wambea Nkosso in August 1977. In the course of the Africanization carried out by Mobutu , he changed his name to Sambwa Pida Nbagui and was Deputy Director General of the Presidential Office from March 1977 to August 1980. In August 1980 he succeeded Jules Croy Emony Mondanga again as governor of the central bank and held this post until April 1985, after which Pierre Pay-Pay wa Syakasighe succeeded him.

In 1985 Sambwa first became Minister for Economy and Industry (Commissaire d'État à l'Économie et à l'Industrie) in the government of Kengo Wa Dondo and was then Minister of Planning (Commissaire d'État au Plan) from April 1985 to September 1987 . After he was then Vice Prime Minister for the economic and monetary sectors, he succeeded Mabi Mulumba as First State Commissioner (Premier commissaire d'État) on March 7, 1988, and thus as Prime Minister of Zaire . He held this post until he was replaced by Kengo Wa Dondo on November 26, 1988. He then acted as President of the Court of Auditors (Cour de comptes) between November 1988 and January 1990 . During the tenure of Prime Minister Étienne Tshisekedi, he was Finance Minister from April 2 to 9, 1997.
