Michael Tojner

Michael Tojner (born March 31, 1966 in Steyr , Upper Austria ) is an Austrian entrepreneur.

Life

Tojner grew up in Haag , Lower Austria , and graduated from the Bundesrealgymnasium Amstetten in 1984 . From 1986 to 1990 he studied business administration at the Vienna University of Economics and Business and from 1988 to 1991 law at the law faculty of the University of Vienna . Tojner, who also received his doctorate in law from the University of Vienna, published his doctoral thesis entitled “A business and legal analysis of venture capital” in 1990 at the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute. As an external lecturer for equity finance, Tojner has been teaching at the Institute for Foreign Trade at the Vienna University of Economics since 1999, and he has been adjunct professor since the winter semester of 2017 .

Michael Tojner was a co-founder of bwin and Global Equity Partners. In total, he invested in over 50 young companies. In 2006 he founded the Montana Tech Components AG industrial group . The Montana Group includes the companies Alu Menziken , Varta AG , Universal Alloy Corporation, Asta , Alpine Metal Tech and Aluflexpack. Varta AG has been listed in the Prime Standard on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange since October 19, 2017 , and the issue was accompanied by Berenberg and Uni Credit Bank . He has been working in the real estate business with WertInvest since the 1990s . The best- known projects here are the purchase of the InterContinental Vienna , the “Alte Postzentrale Wien” and the Hotel Kummer. The “residential tower” project on the hay market is currently highly controversial among the public . However, on June 1, 2017, the Vienna City Council voted by a majority for the Heumarkt project. Tojner announced in September 2018 that he was still behind the architectural design, that he considered it to be a visual enrichment in terms of urban planning and that he also assumed that Vienna would retain its “World Heritage Site” status.

Tojner is a board member of the Vienna Industrial Association and on the supervisory board of Dorotheum GmbH & Co KG. Since 2010 he has been cooperating with the entrepreneur Martin Ohneberg on various projects.

Michael Tojner is committed to promoting youth sports. He takes a stand on current economic and socio-political issues, organizes and gives lectures, for example in Vienna's “Club 20” or in the Wednesday society. Tojner supports architecture and art projects. He is married and has six children.

At the beginning of 2019 it became known that Michael Tojner had been reported by the Province of Burgenland on suspicion of fraud amounting to around € 40 million . Tojner denies the allegations. Two reports submitted by Tojner come to the conclusion that there was no breach of duty. After allegedly damaging the land by around 113 million euros, Tojner's properties worth around 140 million euros were confiscated in July 2019.

Since 1986 he has been a member of the Catholic student association KAV Bajuvaria Vienna in the ÖCV .

Trend magazine ranked him 31st on the list of the richest Austrians in 2019 , with an estimated fortune of 1.45 billion euros.
