Peter-Herbert Frank (born May 5, 1968 in Lauda ) is a German lawyer . He has been the Attorney General at the Federal Court of Justice since October 5, 2015 . Prior to that, he had been working in the judicial service of the Free State of Bavaria since 1995 , most recently as Attorney General in Munich since March 2015 .

Life

In 1987 Peter Frank graduated from the Matthias-Grünewald-Gymnasium Tauberbischofsheim and studied law at the Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg . During his studies he became a member of the Catholic non-beating student association KDStV Cheruscia Würzburg in the CV . He passed the first legal examination in 1992 in Würzburg, the second state examination in 1994 in Munich and passed as the best graduate in Bavaria. In 1995 he did his doctorate at the University of Würzburg in criminal law and criminal procedure law with a thesis on the usability of illegal tape recordings of private individuals .

In April 1995, Frank joined the Bavarian judicial service and initially worked in the Bavarian State Ministry of Justice , then for a short time as a public prosecutor at the Munich I public prosecutor's office. He was then seconded to the Representation of the Free State of Bavaria at the federal level . He was then employed as a judge at the Munich I Regional Court . From November 2006, she was employed again in the Bavarian Ministry of Justice; from 2003 to 2013, Beate Merk was the Bavarian State Minister of Justice, where he worked in both the personnel department and in the management area. From February 2010 to September 2011 he was appointed as a judge at the Munich Higher Regional Court . In October 2011, Frank returned to the Bavarian Ministry of Justice, where he was most recently head of the personnel department, responsible for or at least involved in all important assignments, transfers and promotions in the apparatus. In March 2015 Frank was promoted to the Munich Public Prosecutor General and headed the Munich Public Prosecutor's Office, which is responsible for the district of the Munich Higher Regional Court.

The Bavarian state government wanted to nominate him as a candidate for the next regular change to the office of Federal Public Prosecutor, which would have been due in spring 2016. In August 2015, Justice Minister Heiko Maas proposed Frank as the successor to Attorney General Harald Range in the course of the treason investigations against two journalists on the blog netzpolitik.org .

In June 2018, he obtained an international arrest warrant for the head of the Syrian Air Force .

Frank has been editing the Citizens' Pocket Book of the Federal Agency for Civic Education since 2007 . Since August 2012 he has been chairman of the Felix Porsch-Johannes Denk Foundation of the Cartell Association.

Personal

Frank is Catholic and married. His wife comes from Margetshöchheim and is a teacher of mathematics and physics. Together they have two daughters and a son.
