The Catholic German Student Union Cheruscia Würzburg in the CV (KDStV.Cheruscia Würzburg), Cheruscia for short , is a Catholic , colored and non-striking student union to which current and former students of the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg and other Würzburg universities belong. She belongs to the Cartell Association of Catholic German Student Associations (CV).
history
The Catholic German Student Union Cheruscia Würzburg was founded on May 29, 1893 by five members of the Catholic German Student Union Sauerlandia Münster and Novesia Bonn , who had come to Würzburg to study. As a subsidiary of Sauerlandias and Novesias, it was accepted as the third association in the Cartel Association of Catholic German Student Corporations ( KDV since 1905 ). In 1895 Cheruscia gained academic recognition by the Senate of the Julius Maximilian University of Würzburg , which was signed by Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen . On November 3, 1898, the subsidiary KDStV Bavaria Berlin was founded together with Sauerlandia Münster and Novesia Bonn , and on February 7, 1900, the subsidiary KDStV Tuiskonia Munich was founded together with Sauerlandia Münster , Novesia Bonn and Arminia Freiburg . In 1912 Cheruscia followed her previous association into the Cartell Association of Catholic German Student Associations (CV), which the other KDV associations had already joined in 1910 and 1911.
The Cheruscia had its Würzburg pub around 1914 at Weingartenstraße 8, its letter tray in the Café Alhambra on Franziskanerplatz, where Babett's wine bar is today.
Cheruscia grew steadily until the First World War . From 1915 the entire Aktivitas was at the front, six Cherusci were killed. Liaison operations were largely inactive during the war. Individual friars kept in touch during their home leave or hospital stays. In the winter semester of 1918/19, the service was resumed. On September 3, 1927, Cheruscia acquired its first fraternity house in Zeppelinstrasse, which today belongs to the Würzburg district association of the Bavarian Red Cross (BRK) .
On February 15, 1936, Cheruscia had to be dissolved under pressure from the National Socialists.
The fraternity house was forcibly sold to the Red Cross in 1939. The flag, color and furnishings survived the end of the war in the custody of various federal brothers. Large numbers of Cheruscans were also called up during World War II , of which more than 25 fell.
On April 6, 1948, the Cheruscia was initially re-established as an association. 1953 Cheruscia presented the suburb of the CV with Konrad Dobroschke as suburb president (VOP). Since it was not possible to get back the old connection house in Zeppelinstraße, the property at Keesburgstraße 20 was acquired on May 23, 1955 and construction of a new house began, which could be occupied in 1959.
During the student movement in the 1960s , Cheruscia Würzburg was involved as a bourgeois force in university politics at Würzburg University. The liaison member Hans Hablitzel was president of the student parliament of the Würzburg University in the winter semester 1967/68 . On his initiative, the "Würzburg Student Union" (WSU) was founded in 1968 as a list of the Würzburg student body. This won nine out of 21 seats in the university elections in the 1968 summer semester.
Cheruscia currently consists of approx. 300 old men , approx. 30 active members and four honorary members.
