Helmuth Zimmerer

Helmuth Zimmerer (born December 19, 1912 in Pfaffenberg ; † November 22, 1984 in Würzburg ) was a German lawyer , economist and local politician . From 1956 to 1968 he was Lord Mayor of the City of Würzburg.

Life

The son of a Sparkasse director first attended elementary school in Pegnitz and the village school in Kutzenberg . He then moved to the New Gymnasium in Bamberg , where he passed his Abitur in 1932. He then completed a degree in law and political science as well as economics at the universities in Munich and Erlangen . He passed the first state examination in law and passed the examination as a qualified economist in 1936 . In the same year he was at the University of Erlangen with the dissertation topic race, nationality, Reich citizenship. A contribution to folkish state concept for doctor of law doctorate . After completing his legal clerkship and passing the second state examination in law in 1939, he worked in the internal administration of Bavaria. In 1942 he was appointed government councilor. From 1940 he took part in the Second World War as a soldier , was last lieutenant and was captured in 1945, from which he was released in 1947.

Zimmerer was a member of the SA from February to June 1933 . On May 1, 1933 , he joined the NSDAP (membership number 2,583,835). On June 1, 1933 , he applied for admission to the SS , which he joined on January 23, 1934 as an SS man (membership number 58.228).

After his return from captivity, Zimmerer worked as a lawyer in Bamberg from 1948 to 1950 . He then joined the Würzburg city administration as a personal advisor to Lord Mayor Franz Stadelmayer and as a cultural advisor , where he was promoted to non-party treasurer and professional city councilor in 1952 .

Zimmerer became a representative of the Free Voting Association and held the office of Lord Mayor of the city of Würzburg from 1956 to 1968. In the mayoral elections in 1956, he was against the future prime minister Alfonso Goppel by putting (CSU), with support from the SPD selected and the Free Voters Association, when mayoral elections in 1962 with the support of CSU re-elected. During his tenure, the town twinning agreements with Caen and Dundee (1962), Rochester (1964) and Mwanza (1966) fell.

After he was replaced as Lord Mayor by Klaus Zeitler , he held the title of City Director . In 1972 he was entrusted with the management of the legal office. From 1974 until his retirement in December 1977 he was again a professional councilor and head of the department for urban development, environmental protection and legal affairs.

Helmuth-Zimmerer-Strasse was named after him in the Lengfeld district of Würzburg . Due to Zimmerer's controversial doctoral thesis, the Würzburg city council examined the renaming of the street in 2012, which took place in 2015 by resolution of the city council in Angermaierstraße .

Helmuth Zimmerer had been with Elisabeth, geb. Schmitt, married and had three children. Since 1932 he was a member of the Catholic student association KDStV Aenania Munich , later he became a member of the KDStV Cheruscia Würzburg . From 1958 to 1984 Helmuth Zimmerer was chairman of the Franconian Federation .
