history

The KDStV Germania Leipzig was founded as a student union of the GDR on February 8, 1986 in Wermsdorf as "Germania orientalis". The origins lie in the Catholic Student Community (KSG) in Leipzig. There the association was founded by students who enjoyed the cultural student traditions. Since they had little information about the current status and the spread of the liaison system, they called themselves "Germania orientalis" for "Eastern Germany", which should show their origins. The addition "orientalis" was later deleted due to the reunification . As a sign of the establishment in the GDR , Germania Leipzig is a member of the Rudelsburg Alliance .

The fraternity was initially done in secret, because once membership became known, there was a threat of relegation. The establishment of a Catholic association was incompatible with the socialist system of the GDR. After the reunification , the association joined the Cartell Association of Catholic German Student Associations in 1994 .

After the fall of the Berlin Wall, it was mainly members of West German CV groups who kept the active business going. Today there are numerous Philistines with a second volume in the old rule of Germania.

    • in the center: circle on the connecting colors
  • The mink coat with a purple cover: symbol of the burgundy Germanic hats.

Beer cords

Beer cords

Since it was not possible for the Central German fraternity students in GDR times to buy beer, wine or sparkling wine as a color , as was customary in the West to document friendships externally, so-called beer cords were used. These were and are still about 15 cm long pieces of colored cord that were or are handed out in front of a pub, so that they were or are used to establish accuracy and discipline among the participants, which became a permanent fixture Tradition and has become a unique selling point of East German connections.

Each pub event is identified by a special color. Up to ten salamanders can be grated on a pub evening in the central German federal states . Each salamander is documented with a knot in the "current" cord in the evening, checks on the correct number of knots by the presidium can, in the event of irregularities, mean that the defaulting "knot maker" should remedy the problem after drinking a beer glass.
