In the Kanpur railway accident , the Indore – Patna Express derailed near Pukhrayan , 65 kilometers south of Kanpur , Uttar Pradesh , India on November 20, 2016 . At least 150 people were killed.

The 19321 Indian Railways train was traveling from Indore to Patna . Since the rush of travelers was particularly large that night, he brought a few additional cars with him, a total of 23. Up to 2,500 passengers were on the train. This was significantly overstaffed.

3am derailed least 14 cars of the train on the open track at high speed. Some of the vehicles overturned and some wedged into each other. An official cause has not yet been named; a broken splint may have triggered the accident.

At least 150 people were killed and over 150 more injured, 78 of them seriously.

According to the Home Office, the rescue operations were primarily carried out by the National Disaster Response Force , which is subordinate to the National Disaster Management Authority .

Indian Railways Minister Suresh Prabhu announced a full investigation into the accident. After the accident, several Indian politicians promised compensation. In addition to the compensation promised by Indian Railways for the family of each deceased and seriously injured, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi promised further aid payments. The Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Akhilesh Yadav then pledged further funds, including for the slightly injured. The Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Shivraj Singh Chauhan also followed suit.
