Ümit Dündar

Ümit Dündar (* 1955 in Manisa ) is a general in the Turkish armed forces . He is the commander of the 1st Army in the Istanbul area .

From 1976 Dündar went to the military engineering school. In 1983 he joined the Turkish Army and rose to the rank of lieutenant. He was a staff officer in the infantry division of the armed forces (4th tank brigade) and served on the general staff with the tasks of strategy and force planning.

In 2001 he was promoted to brigadier general. In the Ministry of Defense he was responsible for real estate, construction and the NATO infrastructure link.

Dündar was appointed acting chief of staff after the attempted coup in Turkey in 2016 .
