Hayri Kıvrıkoğlu

Hayri Kıvrıkoğlu (* 1948 in Konya ) is a former Turkish general who, among other things, was commander of the Aegean Army (Ege Ordusu) between 2008 and 2010, commander of the 1st Army (Birinci Ordu) from 2010 to 2011 and between August 2011 and August 2013 was the commander of the Turkish Land Forces (Türk Kara Kuvetleri) .

Life

Kıvrıkoğlu, son of the future brigadier general Mustafa Kıvrıkoğlu , began an officer training at the Army School ( Kara Harp Okulu ) after attending school , which he completed in 1969. He completed a subsequent further training at the engineering troop school (İstihkâm) in 1970 and subsequently found work as a platoon leader and company commander in various army units. After graduating from the Army Academy ( Kara Harp Akademisi ) from 1977 to 1979 , he was initially a staff officer in the headquarters of the 3rd Army and then in the staff of the VIII Corps in Elazığ . After being an officer in the intelligence department at the headquarters of the Allied Land Forces of NATO in Southern Europe LANDSOUTH ( Allied Land Forces Southern Europe ) in Verona , he became head of IT security in the intelligence department of the Armed Forces of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (KKTC Güvenlik Kuvvetleri Komutanlığı) and then Chief of Staff of the 66th Tank Brigade. He then moved to the Supreme Headquarters of the Allied Forces of NATO in Europe SHAPE ( Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe ) in Mons , where he was initially a consultant for connections in the exercise and evaluation department and finally head of the weapons control department of the operations department. After returning to Turkey, he became the commander of the 229th Motorized Infantry Regiment belonging to IV Corps.

In 1996 Kıvrıkoğlu was promoted to Brigadier General (Tuğgeneral) and was initially chief of the operations department in the staff of the 3rd Army and then commander of the 3rd Mechanized Infantry Brigade . After his promotion to major general (Tümgeneral) he became commander of the 3rd Tactical Mechanized Infantry Division in 2000, before he was transferred to the SHAPE headquarters in Mons in 2002 as the executive military representative of Turkey.

After Kıvrıkoğlu was promoted to lieutenant general (co- general ) in 2004, he was commanding general of the IX. Corps (IX. Kolordu) in Erzurum and then in 2006 commander of the occupation force in Cyprus KTBK (Kıbrıs Türk Barış Kuvetleri) . On August 30, 2008, he was promoted to general (Orgeneral) and appointed the successor to Necdet Özel as commander of the Aegean Army (Ege Ordusu) . He held this post until he was replaced by General Nusret Taşdeler on August 30, 2010. He then succeeded General Hasan Iğsız as commander of the 1st Army (Birinci Ordu) and remained in this post until August 4, 2011, whereupon General Yalçın Ataman became his successor.

On August 4, 2011, General Kıvrıkoğlu was appointed by the Supreme Military Council YAŞ (Yüksek Askeri Şûra) to succeed General Necdet Özel as commander of the Turkish Land Forces (Türk Kara Kuvetleri) . He held this position until he retired on August 30, 2013. His successor was then General Hulusi Akar .

Kıvrıkoğlu, who is married to Asiye Hale Kıvrıkoğlu and has two children, speaks English as well as Turkish . His cousin is General Hüseyin Kıvrıkoğlu , who was Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces between 1998 and 2002 .
