Yaşar Guler (born September 18, 1954 in Ardahan ) is a Turkish general. Since July 9, 2018 he has been the Commander in Chief of the Turkish Armed Forces .

Life

Little is known about Güler's early life. In 1974 he began his military career. In 1986 he graduated from the military academy and became a staff officer . He was promoted to Brigadier General in 2001 and was responsible for the 10th Infantry Brigade Command and the General Staff, Planning and Coordination Department. In 2005 he was promoted to major general and took over tasks of the general staff and at the school for communication and electronic information systems of the Turkish armed forces in Ankara, Turkish Muhabere Elektronik Bilgi Sistemler Okuluder (MEBS). In 2009 he was promoted to lieutenant general and took over positions in the general command of the 4th Corps.

On July 9, 2018, he was appointed Chief of Staff of the Turkish Armed Forces by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan .

He is married to Demet Guler, has one child and two grandchildren.
