Feyzi Mengüç

İbrahim Feyzi Mengüç (* 1896 in Istanbul ; † June 23, 1966 ) was a Turkish general who was last chief of the general staff ( Genelkurmay Başkanı ) of the Turkish armed forces ( Türk Silahlı Kuvvetleri ) from 1957 to 1958 .

Life

After attending the military school ( Harp Okulu ), which he graduated in 1914 as a lieutenant in the engineering troops, he completed further training and was employed as a road construction engineer in the engineering troop until 1919. After he had graduated from the Military Academy ( Harp Akademisi ) between 1919 and 1921 , he was used in various army units until 1939 .

In 1939 he was promoted to brigadier general . As such, he was first commander of a border brigade and then deputy commander of the 15th Division . After his promotion to major general in 1941, he became commander of the 15th division and then commander of the 69th division.

After he was promoted to lieutenant general in 1947 , he became deputy commander of the military academy and then commanding general of the VII Corps .

In 1953 Mengüç was promoted to general and appointed commander in chief of the 3rd Army . He was then commander of the Military Academy and a member of the Supreme Military Council before he became President of the Military Court of Cassation ( Askerî Yargıtay ).

On October 11, 1957, he succeeded Hakkı Tunaboylu as Chief of the General Staff. This post he held until his replacement by General Rüştü Erdelhun on 22 August 1958. He then resumed his previous post as president of the Military Court of Cassation, before he at his own request on December 15, 1959 in the retirement was transferred.

After his death he was buried in the Edirnekapı Cemetery ( Edirnekapı Şehitliği ) in Istanbul.
