Hilmi Özkök

Hilmi Özkök (born August 4, 1940 in Turgutlu , Manisa ) was since August 28, 2002 for a period of four years the 24th Chief of the General Staff in Turkey .

Life

After attending the Işıklar Askeri Lisesi (military high school ), Özkök graduated from Kara Harp Okulu (School of Land Forces) in 1959 and Topçu Okulu (Artillery School) in 1961 . After that he was an artillery battery officer and commander. In 1972 he graduated from the Kara Harp Akademisi (Army Academy), in 1975 the NATO Defense Academy. In 1984 he was promoted to brigadier general. From 1986 he was commander of the 70th Infantry Brigade for two years . In 1988 he was promoted to major general and until 1990 commanded the 28th Infantry Division. From 1990 to 1992 he served as head of the personnel department and the general staff. In 1992 he was promoted to lieutenant general. From 1992 to 1995 he was the representative of the Turkish military delegation at NATO headquarters in Brussels . From 1995 to 1996 he was the commander of the 7th Corps. On August 30, 1996 he was promoted to general and until 1998 commanded the Allied land forces in Southeast Europe. From 1998 to 1999 he was the deputy supreme commander of the armed forces. From 1999 to 2000 he was the commander of the first army . Then he was appointed commander of the Turkish army . In 2002 he became chief of staff . Özkök has two children with his wife Özenç Özkök .
