Abdülkadir Seven

Abdülkadir Seven (* 1891 in Selanik , then Ottoman Empire ; † February 16, 1971 ) was a Turkish general who was, among other things, commander-in-chief of the army (Türk Kara Kuvetleri) from 1954 to 1955 .

Life

After attending school, Seven completed training as an officer of the cavalry at the Army School ( Harp Okulu ) , which he completed in 1911 as a lieutenant (Teğmen) . Subsequently, during the Italo-Turkish War from 1911 to 1912, the Balkan Wars from 1912 to 1913, the First World War from 1914 to 1918 and the Turkish Liberation War from 1919 to 1923, he was employed as a platoon leader and company commander in cavalry units and began his training in 1923 Staff officer at the Army Academy ( Harp Akademisi ) , which he graduated in 1926. This was followed by other uses in various units of the cavalry and the army.

After his promotion to Brigadier General (Tuğgeneral) Seven became deputy commander of the 12th Division in 1942 and deputy commander of the 1st Cavalry Division in 1943. In 1944 he was promoted to major general (Tümgeneral) and appointed commander of the 1st Cavalry Division. Afterwards he was first in command of the 1st Infantry Division and finally in command of the 2nd Cavalry Division.

In 1948 Seven was promoted to lieutenant general (co- general ) and initially took over the function of commanding general of the 10th Corps, then as commanding general of the 9th Corps and as commanding general of the 7th Corps, before finally becoming commanding general of the 5th Corps and finally until 1952 was the commanding general of the 3rd Corps.

After Seven had been promoted to general (orgeneral) , he succeeded General Şahap Gürler as Commander-in-Chief of the 2nd Army (İkinci Ordu) on July 10, 1952, and held this position until he was replaced by General Necati Tacan on April 25, 1955 At the same time, he followed General Ahmet Nurettin Baransel on July 10, 1954 as Supreme Commander of the Army (Türk Kara Kuvvetleri) and also retained this post until April 25, 1955. However, he was replaced in this position by General İsmail Hakkı Tunaboylu . He then became a member of the Supreme Military Council (Yüksek Askeri Şura) on April 25, 1955 , of which he was a member until his retirement on July 14, 1956.

After his death, General Seven was buried in the Sahrayıcedit Cemetery (Sahrayıcedit Mezarlığı) in Kadiköy .
