Antiquity
The port city of Kadıköy was around 675–685 BC. Founded as a Megarian colony of Chalcedony . In 133 BC It became by Attalus III. handed over to the Romans by Pergamon. One of the first eight ecumenical councils took place in Kadıköy . The Council of Chalcedon took place in the Euphemia Church in 451 .
population
Kadıköy is one of the Istanbul centers of the secular population and is a social democratic stronghold. It is one of the strongholds of the Turkish opposition, the social democratic-Kemalist party CHP (founded in 1992 after the military coup in 1980 ) and with its merger party, the SHP (1995) , it has been the mayor for the last three decades.

In 2007/08, the district of Kadıköy was about to achieve the status of a large city commune ( Turkish "Büyükşehir Belediyesi" ) because they were approaching the 750,000 population limit (as of 2004). But this was prevented by the spin-off in March 2008 of seven Kadıköy parishes. Thus the number of inhabitants decreased significantly.
Outs / reorganizations / incorporations
Re-municipality 2008
- Yenisahra
- İçerenköy
- İnönü
- Kayışdağı
- Barbaros
- Küçükbakkalköy
- Ataturk Mahallesi
These former seven municipal districts were already separated geographically by the D100 expressway from the rest of Kadıköy and were spun off from Kadıköy district in March 2008. Thus, all seven outsourced municipal districts were integrated into the newly established Ataşehir district , except for the northern part of the Ataturk Mahallesi district which was incorporated into the Ümraniye district.
