Şile (Turkish; Greek Χηλή Chilí ) is a Turkish bathing resort on the Black Sea about 65 km from Istanbul on the Asian side of the Bosporus . Şile means marjoram in Turkish . However, it is believed to be a corruption of an originally Greek name.
history
The first traces of settlement in the place date from the Stone Age . The place was mentioned by Xenophon in his anabasis . The place has had a lighthouse since Ottoman times . Since the 1980s, holiday resorts and hotels have been expanded.
