Sultangazi is a district in the Turkish province of İstanbul and a district on the European side of İstanbul . Sultangazi has 513,022 inhabitants (as of 2014).

The district of Gazi Mahallesi is considered to be the stronghold of DHKP-C sympathizers in İstanbul, who often fight street battles with the Turkish police . In 1995, the height of the riot known as Gazi Mahallesi olayları in Turkey , which killed 15 people, was reached. Gazi is mostly inhabited by Alevis .
