Bağcılar is the capital of the district of the same name in the Turkish province of İstanbul and a district on the European side of İstanbul . Bağcılar has 754,623 inhabitants (as of 2014).

Population development

Migration has been from Anatolia since the 1970s and the population increased from 8,593 in 1970 to 754,623 in 2014. This means that the population has increased 87 times since then. The district was founded in 1992 and is currently the most populous district and district in Istanbul and all of Turkey. Since the 1990s, more and more gecekondus in Bağcılar have been demolished, and three to six-story residential buildings have been erected on the area. 46% of the residents of Bağcılar come from Eastern and Southeastern Anatolia and 28% from the Black Sea region . 30% of men in Bağcılar are illiterate , and 58% of women.
