Necmi Onarıcı (born November 2, 1925 in Istanbul , † August 21, 1968 in Çatalca ) was a Turkish football player and coach. Due to his many years of activity for Kasımpaşa Istanbul and Adalet Istanbul , he was associated with these clubs. With the Turkish national team he took part in the 1954 World Cup. Because of his bitter duels against the German defender Josef Posipal in the context of the world championship game against the German selection , he was nicknamed Posipal Necmi by the Turkish press .

Player career

society

Onarıcı was born in the Kadıköy district of Istanbul in 1925 and started playing soccer as a street footballer. Later he started playing club football in the youth of Kasımpaşa Istanbul . In the summer of 1947 he was then involved in Kasımpaşa in the professional squad. At that time there was no national football league in Turkey. Instead, regional leagues existed in metropolitan areas such as Istanbul , Ankara and Izmir , of which the İstanbul Futbol Ligi (German: Istanbul Football League ) was considered the most famous. Kasımpaşa also played in this league. Onarıcı made his debut for the professionals in the league game on December 7, 1947 against Beşiktaş Istanbul . New to the team, Onarıcı completed twelve out of 14 possible games during the season and became one of the league's shooting stars.

In the summer of 1948 switched to city and league rivals Fenerbahçe Istanbul . With this club he came to only two league appearances during one season and was mostly on the bench. After just one season Onarıcı left Fenerbahçe and moved within the league to his old club Kasımpaşa Istanbul .

He also only played one season for Kasımpaşa and then moved to İstanbul İkinci Küme (German: Second Istanbul League ) to Adalet Istanbul . In this league Onarıcı played with Adalet for two years and reached in the summer of 1953 participation in the İstanbul Profesyonel Ligi (German: Istanbul Professional League ), the successor league of the İstanbul Futbol Ligi . In this league played the most famous Istanbul teams Beşiktaş, Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray. In this league Adalet established himself straight away and finished the first season in 5th place in the table. Onarıcı was the most successful scorer of his team with nine league goals and was also one of the most successful goal scorers in the league. While Adalet ended his second season in this league in the lower half of the table, Onarıcı was still one of the most successful goal scorers in the league. Due to his convincing performance, he was then appointed by the coach of the Turkish national team , the Italian Sandro Puppo , in the squad of Turkey for the 1954 World Cup and played in this tournament in two matches.

After the 1954 World Cup, he played another season for Adalet. With his nine league goals, he played a major role in ensuring that his club finished the season in 4th place in the table. Following the season, Onarıcı took part with his club in the Ataturk Cup , in which the Istanbul clubs Beşiktaş, Fenerbahçe, Galatasaray and Vefa also participated. Here they prevailed surprisingly against the other teams and became the first winner of this newly introduced cup. After this cup tournament, Onarıcı surprisingly left Adalet and moved to league rivals Vefa Istanbul . Vefa Adalet paid a transfer fee of 10,000 Turkish lire. Onarıcı played for Vefa for the next three years and then returned to Adalet. After he was active for one more season for Adalet, he ended his active football career in the summer of 1959.

National team

Due to his good performance at Adalet Istanbul Onarıcı was appointed to the squad of Turkey for the 1954 World Cup . At the end of the group stage, they finished second in the table, tied with the German selection . Although they had the better goal difference, according to the rules of the time, the group runners-up was decided by a playoff between these two teams. Germany decided this encounter 7-2 for themselves. Onarıcı was used in two tournament games of his. The encounter against Germany, which they lost 7-2, should be emphasized here. In this encounter, Onarıcı was the only one of his team to convince and embarrassed the German defender Josef Posipal several times with his dripplings. That's why he was nicknamed Posipal Necmi after this game .

Coaching career

After his football career, he started to work for the state-owned agricultural company Toprak Mahsulleri Ofisi . In between he also took on coaching activities. So he coached his old club Adalet Istanbul in the 1966/67 season .

In the spring of 1968 he attended a coaching course supervised by Doğan Andaç and Gündüz Kılıç and organized by the Turkish Football Association and thus received his official coaching license.

death

Onarıcı suffered during a stay in Catalca and Çorlu on 21 August 1968 a heart attack and died despite medical intervention at its consequences.
