The İstanbul Profesyonel Ligi was a regional soccer league in Istanbul that lasted from 1952 until the nationwide Süper Lig was founded in 1959.
The Istanbul League started with eight teams in its first season and was expanded to ten one season later. With the establishment of İstanbul Profesyonel 2nd Ligi , the 2nd Istanbul Professional League , İstanbul Profesyonel Ligi was also called İstanbul Profesyonel 1st Ligi , from the 1957/58 season the bottom of the table rose.
The last season of this league was the season 1958/59. The first eight of this season qualified for the newly founded Millî Lig (today: Süper Lig ). The İstanbul Profesyonel Ligi was replaced by the İstanbul Mahallî Ligi . Record winners in this league are Fenerbahçe Istanbul and Galatasaray Istanbul with three titles each , followed by Beşiktaş Istanbul with two titles.

The Turkish Football Federation announced the agreement of the Turkish Government on 24 September 1951. Game operation of İstanbul Profesyonel Ligi. Both professional and amateur teams from Istanbul with at least six professional players were eligible to participate. The first season began in January 1952 with a round trip. The participants were Beşiktaş Istanbul , Beykozspor , Emniyet SK , Fenerbahçe Istanbul , Galatasaray Istanbul , İstanbulspor , Kasımpaşa Istanbul and Vefa Istanbul .
Beşiktaş Istanbul won their first season without a loss before Galatasaray Istanbul. Before the start of the 1952/53 season, the clubs Adalet SK and Beyoğluspor were allowed to participate, which increased the number of participants to ten. The number of professional players was increased to nine for the 1953/54 season. The Turkish national soccer team qualified for the final round of the 1954 World Cup . For this reason, seven games of the 1953/54 season were not played and planned for August 1954, but the matches did not materialize. The association decided that the games should not take place. Fenerbahçe and several other teams protested. The Turkish Football Association finally decided on August 16, 1954 that the games would not take place.

During a season, which is divided into two rounds, all 8 or 10 clubs of the İstanbul Profesyonel Ligi met twice based on a schedule set before the season . After each game, the winning team received 2 points and the defeated team 0 points, and in the event of a tie, each team received 1 point. The points achieved in a season were added up to produce a current ranking of the clubs for each game day. In the event of a tie, the goal difference decided the order of placement.

The meetings took place in Mithatpaşa Stadyumu , Fenerbahçe Stadyumu , Şeref Stadyumu and occasionally in Vefa Stadyumu .
