Emin Nedim Günar (born January 1, 1932 in Bandırma , † September 7, 2011 in Istanbul ) was a Turkish football player , coach and official. Due to his many years of activity for Fenerbahçe Istanbul , he is very strongly associated with this club. On fan and club pages he is seen as an important player in the club's history. Due to his physical robustness and his strength in duels , after which he was almost always on his feet, he received nicknames such as Haciyatmaz (German stand-up man ), Topaç Nedim (German spinning top Nedim ) or Biyonik Adam (German Bionik-Man ). With the Turkish national team he took part in the 1954 World Cup. From the 1990s until his death, he was a board member at Fenerbahçe.

Career

society

Günar was born in the Turkish port city of Bandırma . Here he began with his older brother Kazım Günar , who also later became a professional footballer and was active for Vefa Istanbul , playing football on the street. Later he also played club-based football in various school teams and amateur clubs. He later moved to Istanbul with his family in 1946 and settled in the Kadıköy district. In the district that is known as the home of the traditional Istanbul club Fenerbahçe . Here they lived in the Yeldeğirmeni Mahallesi subdistrict . In this new environment he immediately began playing on the street team. If possible, they use the legendary soccer field Kuşdili Çayırı (better known under the name Papazın Çayırı (English: The Priest's Lawn )) for their games , on which today's Fenerbahçes stadium , the Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium , was built . After beating all teams of the same age here, they asked the Fenerbahçes youth team for a friendly. The then coach of the youth team Sabri Kiraz , a player legend of Fenerbahçe, agreed. In this test match on the soccer field Kuşdili Çayırı they clearly won 5-1 against Fenerbahçe. Kiraz was immediately convinced of Günar's talent and immediately arranged that Günar was accepted into the youth department of Fenerbahçe with some other players from his team. In the youth team Fenerbahçes he made it quickly to the team captain. Towards the end of the 1948/49 season he was included in the squad of the professional team by the then head coach Peter Molloy and made his professional debut on April 17, 1949 during a game in the Istanbul Football League against Beykozspor .

At that time Fenerbahçe played in the İstanbul Futbol Ligi , as there was no cross-national league in Turkey. Instead, regional leagues existed in metropolitan areas such as Istanbul , Ankara and Izmir , of which the İstanbul Futbol Ligi (German: Istanbul Football League ) was considered the most renowned. Fenerbahçe played as Istanbul team in this league and counted with Galatasaray Istanbul and Beşiktaş Istanbul to the three strongest teams in this league. Günar came to no further use in the further course of the season. The next entire season Günar was not taken into account in the team planning. It was not until the 1950/51 season that Günar came to additional stakes and so completed five games by the end of the season in which he scored a goal.

In the summer of 1952, the İstanbul Futbol Ligi was dissolved and transferred to a professional league system. From now on there are the İstanbul Profesyonel Ligi (German: Istanbul Professional League ) and the second highest division, the İstanbul İkinci Küme (German: Second Istanbul League ). Fenerbahçe played from then on in the Istanbul professional league. Günar immediately won a regular place in this league, played in all 14 possible league games and was henceforth an integral part of the team. While you finished the first season of this league in 3rd place in the table, you reached the championship in the second season. This was Günar's first title at club level. Due to his consistently good performance for his club, Günar was nominated by national coach Sandro Puppo in the squad of Turkey for the 1954 World Cup, but was not used during the tournament. With his team he reached the championship of the Istanbul professional league two more times in the seasons 1956/57 and 1958/59.

From the spring of 1959, Günar and Fenerbahçe took part in the newly founded and nationwide Millî Lig , now known as Süper Lig . This new league was introduced as the superordinate league of the previous regional leagues, such as İstanbul Profesyonel Ligi . All larger teams in the regional leagues left this and continued to play in the Millî Lig. The first season was played from February 1959 to June 1959. With the championship of this league, Günar and his team became the first Turkish champions . Günar fell out most of this first season due to injury and only played four league games. In the second season of this league failed to defend the title. So they became runner- up behind Beşiktaş Istanbul . In the 1960/61 season , Günar no longer played unchallenged in the team and played ten league games. His team fought head-to-head with Galatasaray Istanbul over the entire season and became Turkish champions for the second time by one point.

Because Günar had not played consistently at Fenerbahçe in the last three seasons and a change was suggested to him by the coaching staff, he negotiated with several top division clubs in the summer transfer period of 1961. On the last day of the transfer period, he then moved to city and league rivals Vefa Istanbul . The decisive factor for this change was the fact that Günar's older brother Kazım was an official at Vefa. At his new club, he had a mixed season. Although he did not always play in the starting XI, he completed 20 of the possible 38 league games.

After one season he returned to Fenerbahçe. Here he played another season in which he mainly sat on the bench and ended his playing career in the summer of 1963.

National team

Günar National team career started with the fact that he as part of the 1954 World Cup in the squad Turkey was appointed. At the end of the group stage, they finished second in the table, tied with the German selection . Although they had the better goal difference, according to the rules of the time, the group runners-up was decided by a playoff between these two teams. Germany decided this encounter 7-2 for themselves. During this tournament Günar did not play a game.

About three months after the 1954 World Cup, Günar was nominated again for the national team in a test match against the Yugoslav national team. In the game of June 5, 1953, he played for the full game length and thus completed his only international match. In the summer of 1955, Günar completed his second and last international match against the Italian national team . After this game, Günar suffered appendicitis and was out for a long time.

He also played once for Turkey's second guard in 1958.

Coaching career

After the end of his playing career, Günar completed a coaching course in the summer of 1969 and received his coaching license here. Following this coaching course, he began to work as a coach at the amateur club Istanbul Demirspor . In February 1971 Günar began to look after the Istanbul second division club Feriköy SK as an assistant coach. He assisted the head coach Hüseyin Arık .

From the summer of 1973, Günar took over the post of assistant coach at Fenerbahçe Istanbul, assisting the Brazilian head coach Valdir Pereira . In addition to this activity, he took over the supervision of the newly opened Fenerbahçes football school together with the new head coach Abdullah Gegiç .

In October 1976 Günar trained interim as head coach for about two weeks Fenerbahçe.

From the spring of 1977 Günar took over as assistant coach and coach of the Istanbul amateur team.

In the summer of 1981 he was introduced as the head coach of the Istanbul amateur club Yeldeğirmeni SK , the club in his home district. He carried out this activity until the winter break. He then took over the position of assistant coach at the Istanbul second division club Karagümrük SK and assisted his former teammate Şükrü Ersoy .

For the season 1982/83 he took over as head coach of the second division Aydınspor and coached this club for a season.

From the summer of 1983 he was introduced to Fenerbahçe Istanbul as an assistant coach and assisted Branko Stanković . After a season he continued this activity under the new head coach Todor Veselinović .

In the summer of 1986 he gave up his assistant coaching position at Fenerbahçe and took over the head coaching position for the first division club Rizespor for the new season . After falling short of expectations here, he made his position available during the winter break and was replaced by Fethi Dermican a little later .

For the season 1987/88 Günar took over the third division club Vefa Istanbul . The club where he and his brother Kazım played as players. With this club Günar finished the first half of the season as autumn champions. But after he was out due to illness in the last few weeks, he was replaced by Fikri Beşiroğlu . At the end of the season, Vefa lost the championship lead. In the summer of 1988 Günar was then again hired as head coach.

death

According to a press release from Fenerbahçe Istanbul , Günar died on September 7, 2011 at the age of 79. One day after his death, he was buried in the local cemetery after the funeral prayer in the Zühüpaşa Mosque in the Kadıköy district . Many greats of Turkish football appeared at his funeral.
