Mehmet Ali Has (born January 1, 1927 in Istanbul , † March 28, 1982 in New York City ) was a Turkish football player . Due to his long activity for Fenerbahçe Istanbul , he is strongly associated with this club. During his playing days as a soccer player, he was known by the nickname Tarzan . His younger brother Şeref Has also played for Fenerbahçe for many years and is also one of the most important players in the club's history. The Has brothers played together for Fenerbahçe in the 1955/56 season, then Mehmet Ali left the club, while Şeref was active for Fenerbahçe until 1969.

Player career

society

Has started club football in the youth division of Beykozspor . In the summer of 1942, von was involved in the club's first men's team. At that time there was no national league in Turkey, only regional leagues in the larger metropolitan areas, of which İstanbul Futbol Ligi (German: Istanbul Football League) was the most renowned. Beykozspor played as the Istanbul team in the Istanbul Football League and was one of the long-established teams in this league. Has established himself as a regular player in the first team relatively quickly, playing in 11 of his team's 18 league games. With his club he finished the 1942/42 season in 6th place in the table. Has made his breakthrough in his second season. With ten league goals he was the club's most successful goalscorer and one of the most successful strikers in the league.

After Has had been active for Beykozspor until 1946, he switched to league rivals Fenerbahçe Istanbul for the new season . In his new team's first game, the club played at home against arch rivals Beşiktaş Istanbul . In this game, Has played the full length of the game straight away, contributed with his two goals to the 4-3 victory of his team and celebrated a successful debut at Fenerbahçe. After this game he completed four more league games by the end of November 1946 and remained without a stake for the rest of the season. At the end of the season, his team reached the championship, which Has won his first title.

Just one season later, Has returned to his old club Beykozspor for the 1947/48 season. At this club he was only used the last four game days. The following season he fought for a regular place at the beginning of the season and played in almost all league games.

After his increasing form last season, Fenerbahçe signed him again. On his second attempt, he established himself as a regular player and was one of the club's seeded players for eight years. His first season after returning, he won the Prime Minister's Cup , the Cup of the Ministry of Education with his team and was runner-up in the league behind Beşiktaş. In the summer of 1952, football was reformed in Istanbul and the Istanbul Football League was transferred to the Istanbul Profesyonel Ligi (German: Istanbul Professional League). Has won the championship with his team in the second season of this league. In the summer of 1955, Mehmet Ali's younger brother Şeref Has moved to Fenerbahçe. The brothers played together for Fenerbahçe in the 1955/56 season.

In the summer of 1956, Mehmet Ali left Fenerbahçe and moved to Adalet SK within the league . Here he played for two seasons and joined his old club Beykozspor in the summer of 1958 . From spring 1959 Has participated with Beykozspor in the newly founded and nationwide Millî Lig (today's Süper Lig). Since there was no national league in Turkey up to this point, only regional leagues in the larger metropolitan areas, this league replaced all regional leagues. The regional leagues were henceforth retained as the 2nd league. Has played three seasons in this league for Beykozspor and moved to league rivals Feriköy SK in the summer of 1962 . He played for Feriköy until the summer of 1962 and then ended his playing career.

National team

Has was nominated for the Turkish national team by the then national coach Peter Molloy in a friendly against the Israeli national team and made his international debut in this encounter. For the Turkish U-21 national team , he completed four games in the Mediterranean Cup 1950-1953 , although he was well over 21 years old in all games. The reason for this was that Turkey had supplemented their U-21 national team with a few players over the age of 21 and so took part in the Mediterranean Cup. Parallel to his work for the U-21s, he also played regularly for the senior national team.

In total, he completed four U-21 internationals and 18 A internationals. He played his last international match on October 6, 1957 against the Spanish national team .

Coaching career

After the end of his football career, Has began to work as a coach. So he started in 1963 at his last club Feriköy SK as an assistant coach. Has only worked in this position for a few weeks. In November 1963 he took over the north Cypriot football club Türk Ocağı Limasol as head coach.

In the season 167/68 he took over the second division Taksim SK and trained them for a while.

death

Has died on March 28, 1982 in New York City . After his football career, he settled in the American metropolis and lived in this city until his death.
