Burhan Sargın , incorrectly referred to by some sources as Burhan Sargun , (born February 11, 1929 in Ankara ) is a Turkish football player . Through his many years of work for Fenerbahçe Istanbul , he is strongly associated with this club. On fan and club pages he is seen as one of the more important players in club history. He was nicknamed Canavar Burhan (German: Monster Burhan , Predator Burhan , Bestie Burhan or Ungeheuer Burhan ) because of his outstanding goal rate and his dynamic style of play, which stole a lot of strength from the opponents. He was part of the Turkish squad during the 1954 World Cup .

Career

society

Sargın first played for Hacettepe GK . In 1951 he moved to Fenerbahçe Istanbul and played here for the next five years. After spending the time from 1956 to 1960 at league rivals Adalet SK , he returned to Fenerbahçe in 1960. After a final season in which he was used only once, he ended his active career in the summer of 1961. For Fenerbahçe he was on the field 70 times and scored 46 goals, for Adalet he played 71 times and scored 14 goals, but also received a red card once.

National team

In the 1954 World Cup qualification , Sargın scored two goals in the three games against Spain , so that the Turkish national team qualified for the World Cup finals . In the preliminary round of the 1954 World Cup , Turkey played in Group 2 with Hungary, Germany and South Korea. Since Turkey was seeded like Hungary, the two teams did not compete in the preliminary round. Turkey lost to Germany 1: 4, against South Korea they won 7: 0, with Sargın contributing three goals. Since the goal difference was not counted and Turkey and Germany were tied, it had to be decided by a playoff which team would get into the knockout round . The Turkish team, which started without Sargın, lost 7-2 and had to travel home.

Sargın also played in three friendly matches (once against Switzerland, twice against Yugoslavia) for Turkey. In total, he scored seven goals in eight games for the Turkish national team.
