Life

Kanatlı graduated from the Army School ( Harp Okulu ) after attending school and graduated from it in 1912 as a lieutenant (Teğmen) . Subsequently he was platoon leader of the 4th Company of the 31st Infantry Regiment, which belonged to the 11th Division. During the deposition of the Young Turkish government , he was arrested on February 22, 1912 and was held in captivity in Corfu until October 12, 1913 . After his release from prison he continued his officer career and was again platoon leader and deputy company commander . He took part in the Balkan Wars , World War I and the War of Liberation between 1919 and 1923 . In 1924 he began his training as a staff officer at the Army Academy ( Harp Akademisi ) and completed it in 1926. This was followed by further uses in various units until 1941.

After his promotion to Brigadier General (Tuğgeneral) in 1941 he was first deputy commander of the 39th Division and in 1942 deputy chief of staff of the 3rd Army . In 1943 he was promoted to major general (Tümgeneral) and was initially Chief of Staff of the 3rd Army , then in 1944 Commander of the 51st Division and Commander of the Border Command East (Şark Hudut Komutanlığı) and finally in 1945 again Chief of Staff of the 3rd Army.

In 1946 he was promoted to lieutenant general (co- general ) and appointed commanding general of the VIII Corps. On October 23, 1947, he succeeded Lieutenant General Nazmi Gönenli as commander-in-chief of the Gendarmerie (Jandarma) and remained in this position until he was replaced by Lieutenant General Nuri Berköz on March 28, 1949. Subsequently, he was initially deputy head of the operations department and head of the personnel department in the general staff Turkey and ultimately commanding general of the XV. Corps.

After his promotion to general (Orgeneral) Kanatlı was on June 24, 1951 successor to General Asım Tınaztepe as Commander in Chief of the 1st Army (Birinci Ordu) and remained in this post until his replacement by General Zekâi Okan on December 27, 1951. He himself thereupon became commander-in-chief of the army (Türk Kara Kuvvetleri) and thus successor to General Kurtcebe Noyan . He held this position until his death on January 15, 1954 and was then replaced by General Nurettin Baransel .

After his death he was buried in the Zincirlikuyu Cemetery (Zincirlikuyu Mezarlığı) of Istanbul.
