Hakkı Tunaboylu

İsmail Hakkı Tunaboylu (* 1895 in Orjachowo , Bulgaria ; † October 28, 1958 ) was a Turkish general who was last chief of the general staff ( Genelkurmay Başkanı ) of the Turkish armed forces ( Türk Silahlı Kuvetleri ) from 1955 to 1957 .

Life

After attending school, Tunaboylu graduated from military school ( Harp Okulu ), which he graduated from in 1914 as a sub-lieutenant in the artillery . He then found use in various artillery units during World War I and was most recently a platoon leader of an artillery battery before joining the National Army on July 31, 1921 and taking part in battles in Anatolia during the War of Liberation . After graduating from the Military Academy ( Harp Akademisi ) between 1924 and 1927 , he served in various units as an officer and staff officer until 1945 .

After his promotion to brigadier general in 1945 he became commander of the reserve officers' school ( Yedek Subay Okulu ) and after his promotion to major general in 1947 he was first in command of the 65th division and then of the 28th division before becoming head of the operations department in the staff of the land forces ( Turk Kara Kuvetleri ) became.

In 1950 Tunaboylus was promoted to lieutenant general . As such, he was initially chief of the staff of the land forces and then successively commanding general of the III. Army Corps and the XV. Army Corps. Most recently he was Deputy and Acting Commander-in-Chief of the 1st Army and most recently head of the Operations Department in the General Staff of Turkey .

After he was promoted to general, he was Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Land Forces between June 6 and August 25, 1955. Subsequently, he was on 25 August 1955 as successor to General Nurettin Baransel chief of staff and held that office until he at his own request on 10 October 1957 in the retirement staggered and one day later by General Feyzi Mengüç , President of the Military Court of Cassation , was replaced. In addition to the post of Chief of Staff, General Tunaboylu held the position of Supreme Commander of the Land Forces as the successor to General Abdülkadir Seven from September 13, 1955 until he was replaced by General Ahmet Nurettin Aknoz on June 6, 1956.

After his death he was buried in the Cebeci Municipal Cemetery in Ankara.
