Necdet Özel

Necdet Özel (* 1950 in Ankara ) is a former chief of staff of the Turkish armed forces . On August 4, 2010, he became the commander of the Jandarma ( military police ). Özel graduated from the Army School ( Kara Harp Okulu ) in 1969. The infantry school followed a year later. Until 1978 it had various uses in the Turkish army . Özel then studied at the Army Academy, which he graduated in 1980. In 1995 he was appointed Brigadier General and in 2003 Lieutenant General.
In August 2010 he was provisionally appointed commander of the Jandarma. After the Chief of Staff of the Turkish Armed Forces Işık Koşaner and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces resigned jointly in July 2011 , Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan appointed Özel as the new Commander-in-Chief of the Army and Deputy Chief of Staff on July 29, 2011 . On August 4th he officially took over the post of Chief of Staff. In accordance with the schedule, he was replaced by Hulusi Akar on August 18, 2015 .
Özel is married and has one child.
