Kurtcebe Noyan

Kurtcebe Noyan (* 1888 in Sivas , Ottoman Empire ; † May 7, 1951 in Ankara ) was a Turkish general who, among other things, was Supreme Commander of the Army (Türk Kara Kuvvetleri) from 1950 until his death in 1951 .

Life

Noyan graduated from the Army School ( Harp Okulu ) after attending school and graduated in 1909 as a lieutenant (Teğmen) . After attending the infantry school (Piyade Sınıf Okulu) in 1911 he was platoon leader of an infantry company and began training as a staff officer at the Army Academy ( Harp Akademisi ) as early as 1913 . After it was abandoned, he was used in various units during the First World War between 1914 and 1918, and after the end of the war he completed his training as a staff officer at the Army Academy from 1918 to 1920. He was then transferred to the 1st Army, but deserted from it during the War of Liberation between 1919 and 1923 and, after fleeing to Anatolia, joined the national army of the newly founded Turkish Republic. He then worked in this in various units.

After his promotion to Brigadier General (Tuğgeneral) in 1937, Noyan was deputy commander of the 2nd Cavalry Division. In 1938 he was promoted to major general (Tümgeneral) and first acted as commander of the 2nd cavalry division and then as deputy commanding general of the V Corps. After he was promoted to Lieutenant General (Co- General ) in 1941 , he became Commanding General of the V Corps and then Deputy Head of the Operations Department in the General Staff of Turkey , before finally becoming Deputy Commander in Chief of the 3rd Army.

On January 31, 1946 he was promoted to general (Orgeneral) and appointed as the successor to General Sabit Noyan to commander in chief of the 3rd Army (Üçüncü Ordu) . He held this post until May 18, 1948 and was then replaced by General Mahmut Berköz . He then succeeded Fuat Erdem as General Secretary of the Supreme Defense Council ( Yüksek Savunma Meclisi ) on September 27, 1948 and remained in this position until he was replaced by Yümnü Üresin on July 1, 1949. He was succeeded by Yümnü Üresin again on May 25th 1950 Secretary General of the High Council for National Defense (Millî Savunma Yüksek Kurulu) , of which he had previously been a member since July 1, 1949. He held this position until he was replaced by Mahmut Berköz on June 6, 1950.

General Noyan, in turn, succeeded General Mehmet Nuri Yamut as Commander-in-Chief of the Army (Türk Kara Kuvvetleri Komutanı) on June 6, 1950, and held this post until his death on May 7, 1951. His successor was then General Şükrü Kanatlı . After his death, Noyan, who was married with two children, was buried in the Cebeci Cemetery (Cebeci Şehitliği) in Ankara.
