Nurettin Ersin

Nurettin Ersin (* 1918 in Çanakkale , Çanakkale Province ; † October 3, 2005 in Ankara ) was a Turkish general who, among other things, served as State Secretary from 1971 to 1973 as head of the intelligence service Millî İstihbarat Teşkilâtı (MIT) and most recently in 1983 as head of the general staff ( Genelkurmay Başkanı ) of the Turkish Armed Forces ( Türk Silahlı Kuvvetleri ) was.

Life

Training as an officer and head of MIT

After attending the military academy of Bursa Ersin resigned as an officer cadet in 1935 in the Military School ( Harp Okulu a) he 1937 as a second lieutenant of infantry left. He carried out this task after his promotion to major general in 1966 and then became commander of the 4th Infantry Division .

After being promoted to Lieutenant General in 1970, he was initially the commander of the armed forces in western Turkey, before becoming head of the intelligence service Millî İstihbarat Teşkilâtı (MIT) on August 2, 1971 as the successor to Mehmet Fuat Doğu in the rank of State Secretary , and this function until his replacement held by Bülent Türker on June 25, 1973.
