Nejat Tümer

Nejat Tümer (* 1924 in Istanbul ; † May 29, 2011 ibid) was a Turkish admiral who was last from 1980 to 1983 Commander-in-Chief of the Navy (Türk Deniz Kuvvetleri) .

Life

Naval officer

After attending school, Tümer entered the Naval School (Deniz Harp Okulu) on December 15, 1941 and graduated on January 15, 1944 as an ensign at sea (Asteğmen) . He was then used between 1944 and 1948 as a navigation officer on the TCG Demirhisar and the TCG Ayancık . After attending a torpedo technology course in the USA between 1948 and 1949 , he was a torpedo officer on the TCG Gemlik between 1949 and 1951 .

After completing a course for staff officers at the Naval Academy (Deniz Harp Akademisi) in 1955, he found use on the TCG Marmaris and the TCG Edremit , before he was first commander of the TCG Gemlik and then first officer of the training ship TCG Savarona , which belongs to the Naval Academy . He then moved to the high command of the Navy, where he was first general secretary of the operations department until 1965 and finally head of the planning department. After he was commodore of the 1st destroyer flotilla from 1965 to 1966, he was head of the operations department in the fleet command (Donanma Komutanlığı) between 1966 and 1967 .

Promotion to admiral

After his promotion to Rear Admiral (Tuğamiral) 1967 Hallows Chief of Staff of the Fleet Command in was naval base Gölcük (Gölcük Deniz Ana üssü) and then head of the planning department at the headquarters of the Allied NATO -Seestreitkräfte Southern NAVSOUTH (Allied Naval Forces Southern Europe) in Naples. In 1970 he was promoted to rear admiral (Tümamiral) and appointed commander of the warship squadron (Harp Filosu) before he was then commander of the naval training command (Deniz Eğitim Komutanlığı) .

1974 Tümer was promoted to Vice Admiral (Koramiral) and appointed Chief of Staff of the Navy, before he became Supreme Commander of the Fleet Command in 1976 and was promoted to Admiral (Oramiral) in this role in 1978 .

On August 10, 1980, Admiral Tümer succeeded Admiral Bülend Ulusu as Commander-in-Chief of the Navy (Türk Deniz Kuvvetleri) and remained in this position until he was replaced by Admiral Zahit Atakan on December 6, 1983 . September 1980 also member of the National Security Council MGK ( Millî Güvenlik Konseyi ) and 1982 of the Presidential Council (Cumhurbaşkanlığı Konseyi) .

Admiral Tümer was married and the father of two children.
