Metin Ataç

Muzaffer Metin Ataç (* 1946 in Istanbul ) is a former Turkish admiral , who was last commander in chief of the naval forces ( Türk Deniz Kuvvetleri ) from 2007 to 2009 .

Life

After attending high school , Ataç entered the naval school ( Deniz Harp Okulu ) in 1960 and graduated from it in 1965 as a sub-lieutenant at sea . He then continued his officer training in the High Command of the Naval Forces and then found employment in various naval units between 1967 and 1976, for example as an officer and section head in the naval command ( Donanma Komutanlığı ), as a first officer and as the commander of a warship.

In 1976 he joined the Naval Academy ( Deniz Harp Akademisi ) as an officer auditor, and after graduating from 1979 to 1980 he completed a course at the NATO Defense College in Rome and in 1980 a course at the Armed Forces Academy ( Silahlı Kuvvetler Akademisi ).

He then worked as a staff officer in the fleet command, in the high command of the naval forces and in the general staff of Turkey , before he worked in the infrastructure department of NATO between 1985 and 1986 and then until 1989 as a naval representative in the military representation of Turkey in the NATO military committee. Then Ataç was between 1989 and 1990 planning director in the operations department in the High Command of the Naval Forces. This was followed by a use as a commodore of the III until 1992. Destroyer squadron ( Muhrip Filosu ).

After his promotion to flotilla admiral , he was first deputy head of the personnel and training department and then head of this department in the High Command of the Naval Forces in 1992, before he was appointed commodore of the miners' flotilla ( Mayın Filosu ) in 1996. He was then promoted to Rear Admiral in 1996 and was Chief of Staff and Commander of the Fleet in Fleet Command between 1996 and 2000.

In 2000 he was promoted to Vice Admiral and at the same time appointed head of the Control and Evaluation Department in the High Command of the Naval Forces. Subsequently, Ataç was Chief of the Naval Staff between 2001 and 2003 and after termination of this activity between 2003 and 2005 Commander-in-Chief of the Naval Command North ( Kuzey Deniz Saha Komutanlığı ), which is responsible for the Marmara Sea , Black Sea , Bosporus and Dardanelles , among other things .

After being promoted to admiral, he became Commander-in-Chief of the Naval Command ( Donanma Komutanlığı ) in 2005 , which includes the mine-laying, submarine , assault boat , anti-mine vehicle , logistics support and naval aviation associations .

Subsequently, on August 24, 2007, he was appointed commander-in-chief of the naval forces and thus the successor to Admiral Yener Karahanoğlu , while Eşref Uğur Yiğit was the new commander in chief of the naval command. After his term of office was extended by another year on August 30, 2008, Admiral Eşref Uğur Yiğit finally succeeded him on August 30, 2009 as commander in chief of the naval forces.
