Emin Göksan

Emin Göksan (* 1927 in Edremit , Balıkesir Province ; † December 18, 2007 in Istanbul ) was a Turkish admiral who was last from 1986 to 1988 Commander in Chief of the Navy (Türk Deniz Kuvetleri) .

Life

After attending school in 1945, Göksan entered the naval school (Deniz Harp Okulu) and graduated in 1947 as an ensign at sea (Asteğmen) . This was followed by assignments as an officer on various destroyers and other units of the Navy. After completing his training as a staff officer at the Naval Academy (Deniz Harp Akademisi) in 1960, he became the commander of the destroyer TCG Giresun and, after further assignments, a commodore of the 1st destroyer flotilla .

After his promotion to Flotilla Admiral (Tuğamiral) Göksan was first military attaché at the embassy in the United Kingdom in 1971 , then commander of the rear units and then chief of the staff of the fleet command (Donanma Komutanlığı) . In 1975 he was promoted to rear admiral (Tümamiral) and appointed commander of the Northern Task Force (Kuzey Görev Grup Komutanlığı) in the Gölcük naval base , an association belonging to the fleet command . Then he was commodore of the warship squadron (Harp Filosu) and commander of the naval training command (Deniz Eğitim Komutanlığı) .

In 1979 Göksan was promoted to Vice Admiral (Koramiral) and was initially Deputy Chief of the General Staff for Military History and Strategic Studies and then Supreme Commander of the Regional Command South (Güney Deniz Saha Komutanlığı) responsible for the naval units in the Mediterranean and Aegean Sea . After his promotion to admiral (Oramiral) on August 30, 1983, he was commander-in-chief of the fleet command.

Most recently, Admiral Göksan succeeded Admiral Zahit Atakan as Commander-in-Chief of the Navy (Deniz Kuvetleri Komutanı) on August 22, 1986 and remained in this position until August 22, 1988. He was then replaced by Admiral Orhan Karabulut and retired. Göksan was married and had two children.
